Components and Flow Diagram OverviewWater circulation in a typical system flows as follows:
Water Collection: Water is drawn from the pool through the skimmers (collects surface debris) and the main drain (collects water from the pool bottom).
Pre-Filtration: The collected water passes through a strainer basket (hair and lint pot) located before the pump to trap large debris like leaves and hair, protecting the pump.
Pumping: The pool pump (the “heart” of the system) pulls water from the skimmer/drain and pushes it under pressure through the rest of the system.
Filtration: Water is forced through the main filter tank (typically containing sand, cartridge, or diatomaceous earth media), which traps smaller particles, dirt, and debris. A multiport valve on top of the filter controls the water flow direction for different functions (filter, backwash, rinse, etc.).
